About: Kimberly Rae

Kimberly RaeKimberly has rafted the Nile River, hiked the hills at the base of Mount Everest, and eaten cow brains, just to say she’d done it! She has ridden an elephant (fun, but not as comfortable as you’d think), saw a robbery at knifepoint in the rickshaw in front of her (not fun at all), and eaten bone marrow (a cow’s if you want to know).

Before her adventures overseas, Kimberly spent her high school years reading books between classes because she was scared to talk to people, used to sit on one side of people because her teeth looked less crooked from that side, and later, after she finally got a little more brave, managed to fall down the steps in a formal the night of the Junior/Senior banquet!

When God led Kimberly into missions, at first she would get sick every time she had to speak in front of a crowd. Now it is one of her favorite things to do, which goes to show God knows better than we do what’s best for us! Kimberly went to Bangladesh at the age of 22 and lived there for 2 years. After that, she lived in Uganda working with an AIDS orphans ministry, then she married and she and her husband moved to Indonesia, where he taught English as a Second Language at a University.

Through those years, Kimberly struggled with multiple health problems (53 symptoms to be exact) but no doctor could figure out what was really wrong with her. Finally, after 15 years of searching, she was diagnosed with Addison’s disease. She also has hypoglycemia, asthma, and a cyst on her brain, and when she asked one doctor if she would be able to return overseas he said no, and he was surprised she hadn’t kicked off already!

As she has learned to live with a lesser version of herself than she would have chosen for herself, Kimberly is realizing that she used to find her identity and her worth in what she did and how much she did. Though her health problems, God is teaching her to find her worth in Him. She now loves sharing that message of worth with others through her novels on human trafficking and missions (Stolen Woman, Stolen Child, Stolen Future), her series on chronic health problems (Sick & Tired, You’re Sick They’re Not) and her new upcoming book for children who have lost a loved one and are grieving, titled, When I’m With Jesus.
