Alive in Christ Radio LIVE || In-Studio Guest: Patricia Edwards
Patricia Edwards is a Christian self-empowerment speaker and author. Although her life was once difficult due to her own self-sabotaging viewpoints on the world and her life, controlling and abusive relationships, adultery, divorce, alcohol, drugs, and other less than desirable circumstances, her personal attempts to overcome these obstacles always fell short until she made a bold yet daring request for God to intervene. Many refer to her as “inspirational” and “motivating” as her approach to life now includes a focus on our spiritual, mental, and physical energy. When she’s not volunteering and helping others or managing her family, she is writing from her home in Virginia. You can learn more about her and purchase her current publication, “Are You As Close To God As You Are To My Bumper?” by visiting her website at: www.patriciaedwardsbooks.com

Title: Are You As Close To God As You Are To My Bumper?
Description:
Just as there are no two persons or thumbprints alike, there are a variety of reasons people choose to live life within the parameter of God’s Will. “Are You As Close to God As You Are To My Bumper?’ is a collection of personal memoirs on faith that look, examine, and reveal the events and reasons behind several of those choices.
Based on the premise that a deep and meaningful relationship with Christ can break whatever cycle a person may be stuck in, each testimony is passionately declared by a healthy mix of people who remain lovingly focused on the mindset of nonbelievers, new-believers, and seekers because they too once thought as them. Their ups and downs gently pull the readers aside from their own less than perfect life and reminds them that they are not alone. Many people, even from thousands of years ago, have experienced the same emotions, joys, dilemmas, doubts, fears, and struggles that they do today.
The book inspires ‘hope’ to survive and recover from less than desirable predicaments and to rest assured that God is who and what we and the Bible claim Him to be.

Title: Hanging On by the Scratch Marks my nails Left Behind (Raw Faith)
Description: Foreword by Pastor Charles Carrin and Dr. Corey Cameron You-one person-an individual, can literally change this whole world with love. By focusing on love, making a choice to love, feeding all that is positive, good, and of the light with exuberance and abundance instead of feeding the negative and evil things of the darkness. You can literally change the world and yourself. One relationship–one interaction–one decision at a time. If you are experiencing the dark night of the soul in affliction year after year, it will present you, as it has me, with opportunities not found in most other life circumstances. This is a life story of being in the fire, where I currently remain, where my heart for the Lord has become increasingly insatiable. A deepened intimacy has developed and continues to grow even through this very moment, and will continue beyond. As you read, this is my hope and prayer for you as well. Elizabeth Chalker is still in the furnace of life’s calamities and fighting the good fight of faith and endurance, keeping her eyes on the prize of heaven. Before serious, physical illness devastated her body, Elizabeth was on the fast track as a successful psychologist and addictions specialist, working with violent juvenile offenders and their families, near the completion of her third graduate degree. Her life is a testimony of faith that is steadfast and remains no matter the seemingly dark, unjust, and treacherous circumstances of life. She resides in Boca Raton, Florida, with her beloved “son” Symon (a Corgi/Shepherd mix dog). Elizabeth continues to minister to those in need and aspires to show God’s glory through every breath she takes. To contact the author, go to www.helpelizabeth.net

On this edition of Alive in Christ Radio LIVE, we carry on with our discipleship series. Are we going and making disciples or are we simply making excuses for not going and making disciples? What roles should church leadership take when it comes to addressing the “cost of discipleship?” This is our teaching as we discuss, “Making Disciples or Excuses” from God’s Word and the Introduction of “The Discipling Church” text.
It is our prayer that you be Spirit-filled and blessed by what you will discover on this unique edition of Alive in Christ Radio LIVE.

Alive in Christ Radio LIVE || In-Studio Guest: Jason Velotta
Jason Velotta is currently the Associate Pastor serving at Christ Church in Brownsville, TN. Growing up in a Christian home, Jason made a profession of faith early in life. However, the fruits and conviction of the Holy Spirit were absent for much of Jason’s teenage and young adult life. Searching for fulfillment in music, Jason spent most of his young life playing the guitar in rock bands around Memphis and Jackson, TN. The lifestyle that accompanied Jason’s career choice quickly degenerated into a destructive pattern.
Jesus saved Jason in 2003 and called him to the ministry two short years later. Since then, Jason has earned master’s degrees in ministry and biblical studies from Temple Baptist Seminary and in Dec. of 2012, he will complete his MDiV. He currently resides in Tennessee with his wife Dana, and their three children, Jacob, Jesse, and Sophie.
Realizing the futility of that lifestyle, Jason left that life and returned to the church, “re-dedicating” himself to God. After years in the Church, it became clear that he had simply traded an overtly sinful lifestyle for a religious one. In 2003, the Holy Spirit convicted Jason of his sin and revealed the fact that he was just as lost on the Church pew as he had been playing in the clubs of Beale Street.

Title: Reclaiming Victory: Living in the Gospel
Description: Today, many believe the gospel is nothing more than the basics of Christianity the first of many steps toward a victorious life of joy. The gospel of Christ is believed, accepted, and then laid aside as the believer searches for the abundant life. Do you remember the joy you felt when Jesus first saved you from your sin? Before you knew it, ministry programs, self-help principles, and moral mandates drew you away from the very gospel that first captivated you. Since then you have struggled to recapture that victory for living. Far too many believers experience this loss of vitality in their spiritual lives. In fact, this decline is so common that many say a declining passion is to be expected as a Christian matures! Even worse, because of our inept view of the gospel, many non-believers disregard the Bible’s evidences of salvation, joining the millions of unfulfilled believers in a fruitless search for peace. In Reclaiming Victory: Living The Gospel, author Jason R. Velotta dispels the idea that salvation is just the doorway on the road toward victorious living. With an informative yet captivating style, Reclaiming Victory brings God’s Word to the forefront, showing that the gospel itself is the victorious Christian life! Believers will find that the life of fulfillment is waiting at Calvary, exactly where we left it. Disregard the ‘recovery’ mindset, which has led to helplessness and apathy, for the gospel is not just the door to salvation…It is the source of the victorious Christian life! Your Savior is waiting…your fulfillment has always been in Him…Victory is already yours!

Title: Addiction-Proof Parenting: Biblical Prevention Strategies
Description:
No one can predict if a child will grow up to be an “addict” of some kind. No one has discovered an “addiction gene,” and there is no compelling evidence linking addiction to a brain disease or disorder. A child becomes addicted by personal choice to abuse and addictive substance. However, parenting skills (or lack thereof) have a direct impact upon your children. A child’s thinking and interpretations of life’s events impact the decisions they make as adults.
The first section of this book contains general, basic biblical wisdom for all parents. This portion of the book will be especially helpful for new parents with young children. The second section will present a brief overview of the biblical approach to addiction. In the final section, you will learn how addicts develop selfish thinking patterns in childhood and the five mentalities which must replace them. Addiction-Proof Parenting hinges upon changing your child’s thinking to be more Christ-centered rather than self-centered.

Title: Discipleship in the Home
Description: The one great obsession of A.W. Tozer’s life was worship. Many have written about worship, but Tozer surpassed them all in simple passion and supreme purpose. Compiled from material never before published, this book presents A.W. Tozer’s systematic teaching on worship, the subject close to his heart. One of the first in evangelical circles to call attention to the doctrine of worship, Tozer knew worship as the purpose of man and the expectation of God. His thoughts on this subject were deeply rooted in biblical doctrine and historic writings, blending Scripture with some of the great devotional writers throughout history. Like sitting down with Tozer, The Purpose of Man delivers Tozer’s soul cry on worship and will inspire readers to not only understand worship, but also experience it in his or her own heart. “This will be the best teaching in my ministry. I want to deliver my soul as a prophet of God to the people, and to explain why we were created and why we are here, not to the satisfaction of the needed appetite only but to something bigger, grander and more eternal, that we might worship God and enjoy Him forever.” A.W. Tozer

Alive in Christ Radio LIVE || Christian Book of the Week:
Author: James Robison and Jay W. Richards
Title: Indivisible: Restoring Faith, Family, and Freedom Before It’s Too Late
Description: Many books have been written on conservative politics. Many more have been written calling Christians to holiness and spiritual revival. Few, however, have managed to combine a clear explanation of the conservative political perspective with its corresponding personal and spiritual virtue.
In INDIVISIBLE, James Robison, the founder and president of LIFE Outreach International, partners with Jay Richards, Ph.D., a writer who has appeared in both the New York Times and The Washington Post. Together, they tackle tough, controversial political issues facing conservative Christians today, including abortion, stem cell research, education, economics, health care, the environment, judicial activism, marriage, and others. Written to appeal to a broad spectrum of believers, INDIVISIBLE not only argues political questions from a Scriptural standpoint, it also provides simple arguments that Christians can use to support their beliefs in public settings.
Most significantly, Robison and Richards recognize that the point of origin for spiritual and moral transformation is the individual. “We are convinced by historical precedent that long term cultural change requires not merely sound thinking and public good works but rather, God’s spiritual and moral transformation of us as individuals, which will then transform our churches, our communities, our culture, and ultimately our politics.”

Title: God Unwrapped: God Is Love But Not The Kind You Are Used To
Description: Are you ready to see God in a brand new way? Are you ready to live a well-loved life? God loves you, He truly does. He is better than you might think. Some people grow up with a perception of Who God is. They think that God is out to punish them and that He is mad at them. That type of thinking is totally wrong. God is LOVE, but not the kind that you are used to. God is longing to be in a relationship with you and show you how much He loves and cares for you. God is not a distant, disapproving force that is difficult to please and unwilling to help. He is a loving, kind, gracious and good God. What you believe about God and yourself is indispensable to your growth and success at every level. Your view of God ultimately determines the difference between personal significance and emptiness, happiness and depression, success and failure. Examining and experiencing who God really is and what He really thinks about you is fundamental to getting unstuck from self-defeating thoughts and behaviors, dissatisfaction with yourself, and unfulfilling or harmful relationships. God does not look at you for all of your mistakes and downfalls; He looks at you as His CHILD. He looks at you through the eyes of LOVE.
