Alive in Christ Radio LIVE || In-Studio Guest: Barbara Ann Derksen
Watching the expressions on the faces of her readers, as well as answering questions about her characters, is what drives author and speaker, Barbara Ann Derksen to write yet another book and another. Her favorite genre is murder mystery but each book brings forth characters who rely on God as they solve the puzzle in their life.
Barbara’s devotionals are sought after each year when she publishes a new one that reflects what God has placed on her heart. From Straight Pipes, her first, to More Than Bells, Preparation for Prayer, the latest, Barbara’s devotions take people to the place where God can touch their heart and leave a lasting impression. When people stop by her table for the latest, they talk to her about using the devotions in their chapter meetings, or their personal devotions. Some men return at their pastor’s request because the books are used as launch pads for men’s bible study. Many copies have been passed on to new believers as discipling tools.
Born in Canada, Barbara lived in the US for 12 years. There her writing surfaced as she worked under contract as a journalist for six years with over 2500 articles published in newspapers and magazines during that time. Meeting and interviewing people, digging for the hidden gems in their lives, made those years informative as well as instructive. She began attending Colorado Christian Writer’s Conferences and each year, under the tutelage of great Christian writer’s like James Scott Bell, Angela Hunt, and others, she honed her skills.
Barbara has developed a speaking platform and has spoken across the US and in Manitoba, Canada for women’s groups and in church services on topics such as The Writing Experience, working in the ministry of Christian Motorcyclists Association, Love, Parenting, Time Management, and a host of others.
With 17 books to her credit, one currently inactive and awaiting revision, each one surpasses the last, according to her readers. They look forward to discovering the new characters in a new series Finders Keepers. Book One – Shadow Stalker – will be released mid-May, 2013
Writing, however is simply a tool to be used in the ministry she shares with her husband. With his gift of music (he sings country gospel), Barbara and her husband operate CatchFire Ministries, a ministry to bikers through Christian Motorcyclists Association. They travel for four to five months every summer in the US and the rest of the time in Canada where they seek to inspire, encourage and invite people into a deeper ministry with Jesus Christ. They also minister at Veterans Homes and churches along the way and are about to begin a ministry to Juvenile offenders incarcerated at Manitoba Youth Center. The mysteries include a gospel message that opens her readers to the possibility of reading books written from a Christian World view and supply funds for CatchFire.

He is a contributing writer for various blogs and have a vision to impact all who have lost their balance on the beams of prosperity, power, and position. I know the intoxication of self indulgence and has lived under its power and control. Now free from the bondage of this addiction, he offers solutions to many of life’s toughest questions as he weaves through the tapestry of life through the stories he has had to live to teach.
He currently leads the information technology team at a Vermont based company that specializes in consulting services for the planning, analysis, and management of transportation, natural resources, technology, and business. He also serves on a team with Reach4Hope, a faith-based non-profit organization that reaches out to the homeless and needy in Concord, NH with a focus on meeting the physical and spiritual needs of those on the street.
Tim has also worked in the capacity of VP of Information Technology for a global provider of employer-sponsored child care, early education, and work/life solutions as well as other technology executive positions. He has served as council member for the CIO Executive Council, on the board for Nashua Children’s Learning Center and on a Work and Witness team to Panama. Tim has been quoted in CIO, Computer World, Information Security & CRN magazines and has published works on Servant Leadership, IT Innovation, and Vendor Relationships.

Gene and his wife Nancy were approached by their pastor on their wedding day in June 1966 with a request to start an AWANA ministry upon return from their honeymoon. For the next 2 years, both as college students, they joyfully served on an AWANA advisory board and were instrumental in starting AWANA clubs, running conferences and Olympics.
After graduating college, they relocated to Washington state and served as directors for AWANA summer camp where they observed nearly 550 decisions were made to follow Jesus during that 3 month period. They continued to start many AWANA programs in the Pacific Northwest when they realized their ability to have an impact on the entire west coast.
In 1970 they became AWANA Missionaries and moved to California where they started with three AWANA churches while expanding their reach as far east as the Rocky Mountains. In 2003, they added Hawaii to their territory.
Today, there are over 1000 churches in California alone which support AWANA programs. There are currently eight AWANA Missionaries in California and thousands of leaders have been trained to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and in turn are training these boys and girls to serve our Savior.
Gene and Nancy continue to be a part of training AWANA Missionaries in far reaching countries such as South Africa, India, Australia, Sweden, Bangladesh, and the Philippines.

Some people grow up with a perception of Who God is. They think that God is out to punish them and that He is mad at them. That type of thinking is totally wrong. God is LOVE, but not the kind that you are used to. God is longing to be in a relationship with you and show you how much He loves and cares for you. God is not a distant, disapproving force that is difficult to please and unwilling to help. He is a loving, kind, gracious and good God. What you believe about God and yourself is indispensable to your growth and success at every level. Your view of God ultimately determines the difference between personal significance and emptiness, happiness and depression, success and failure. Examining and experiencing who God really is and what He really thinks about you is fundamental to getting unstuck from self-defeating thoughts and behaviors, dissatisfaction with yourself, and unfulfilling or harmful relationships. Sylvie Hache embraced the homosexual lifestyle for 13 years before receiving life-altering insight that caused her to turn her life around. She is now dedicated to helping others who currently live a non-straight lifestyle (or who are considering it) to receive this life altering truth and insight so they too, can enjoy the life they were born to live.
Vulnerable and defenseless, her life in a tailspin form an abusive, failed marriage, Sylvie Hache fell into the welcoming arms of the homosexual community, where she embraced the non-straight lifestyle wholeheartedly, even finding and undergoing a civil union with the “woman of her dreams.”
She believed her greatest struggles would be “coming out” and the acceptance of family and society; but when she is met with struggles she cannot overcome, and her life deteriorates into a hellish-merry-go-round, losing everything of value to her, a Christian family comes to the rescue, taking her into their home to live. It is there that she sees a glaring contrast between her emaciated life, and the beautiful, loving, peaceful life of her host family. This is when she comes face to face with an unseen reality she was not aware of, nor expecting to find, leading her to seek truth.
